New to the sport of rock climbing? Welcome to Portland Rock Gym! Our staff will show you around and explain some climbing basics to help get you started. Anyone can drop in during our regular business hours to pick up a day pass and rental gear.
A current liability waiver is required for every person who enters the gym. You can fill one out here.
New to Climbing?
Book a Belayer
Curious about climbing but not sure where to start? Our Book a Belayer sessions make it easy. For one hour, a Portland Rock Gym staff member will handle the ropes and guide you through your first climbs — you just focus on the fun! No experience needed.
Bring a friend, the family, or come on your own. It’s the simplest way to try roped climbing in a fun, supportive, and exciting way.
What’s Included:
- 1-hour session with a dedicated PRG staff belayer
- All rental gear: harness, shoes, and chalk bag
- Beginner-friendly guidance on technique and safety
- Next-step info on classes and memberships
Pricing:
- $65 for the first two people
- +$20 for each additional person (max 4 per group)

Just want to climb for the day? A Day Pass gives you full access to all climbing areas, fitness spaces, and amenities at Portland Rock Gym. Perfect for visitors, first-timers, or anyone looking for a one-time climbing experience.

Intro to Climbing
Another option is our Intro to Climbing Class. This two hour class covers bouldering, auto-belays, and rope climbing.
No experience necessary. Sign up individually or with a group of your friends.
Friday evenings from 7–9 PM

In the drier months, Portland Rock Gym operates a guide service. Our Gym to Crag program is designed to make climbing outside accessible!
